LeakPinpoint by Northern Region Leak Detection Services

Hidden leaks shouldn’t be found by guesswork.

LeakPinpoint specialises in locating suspected underground water leaks before excavation. The service is operated by Northern Region Leak Detection Services, a Penang-based Malaysian business providing specialist leak detection since 2014.

From plumbing experience to specialist leak detection

LeakPinpoint grew from a problem our founder saw repeatedly while working as a plumber: customers were spending time and money opening floors, driveways and ground without knowing where the underground leak was.

That experience led to a different approach—inspect the pipeline first, narrow the suspected location and only then plan the excavation.

2005 — Started in plumbing

Hands-on plumbing work provided practical experience with water-supply systems, pipe repairs and the cost of excavating in the wrong place.

2012 — Introduced to non-destructive leak detection

The possibility of locating hidden leaks with specialist listening and diagnostic equipment changed the direction of the business.

2014 — Leak detection service started in Penang

Professional equipment was introduced and underground water leak detection became a dedicated service.

2017 — Fully committed to specialist leak detection

The business moved away from general plumbing and focused on finding suspected underground leaks before excavation.

Today — Broader technical work

LeakPinpoint now supports residential properties, apartments, commercial buildings, factories, industrial facilities and underground fire-hydrant pipeline systems.

The method depends on the pipeline and site

The same equipment is not suitable for every job. Before choosing a method, we consider the pipe material, diameter, route, depth, pressure, access, background noise and the symptoms reported by the customer.

  1. Understand the problem — Review the meter, pressure, pump behaviour, water source and available pipeline information.
  2. Inspect the site — Check the route, valves, access points, surfaces and sources of background noise.
  3. Choose the method — Use ground listening, contact listening, wireless correlation or supporting system checks where suitable.
  4. Compare several points — Narrow the area progressively instead of relying on one reading.
  5. Mark and explain — Mark the suspected location when justified and explain the recommended next step.

Leak detection and pipe repair are different stages

LeakPinpoint concentrates on locating the suspected leak before excavation. After the area has been marked, the customer’s appointed plumber or contractor normally opens the ground, confirms the actual pipe condition and completes the repair.

Specialist leak investigation

  • Method chosen for the pipe and site
  • Several points compared along the route
  • Suspected area narrowed before excavation
  • Findings and limitations explained clearly

Excavation and repair

  • Ground or floor opened safely
  • Actual defect physically confirmed
  • Pipe repaired or replaced
  • Surface reinstated as agreed with the contractor

The two roles work together: accurate investigation helps the repair team excavate more carefully and with a clearer starting point.

The same specialist approach, adapted to different sites

  • Homes and residential properties — High water bills, moving meters and suspected hidden supply-pipe leaks.
  • Apartments and property management — Shared systems that require access coordination and clear reporting.
  • Commercial buildings, schools and hotels — Underground distribution pipes with operational and access considerations.
  • Factories and industrial facilities — Work planned around safety requirements, machinery noise and shutdown windows.
  • Engineering firms and main contractors — Specialist support before excavation and repair work.
  • Fire-protection and facility teams — Underground fire-main investigations using suitable acoustic and system checks.

Clear communication from enquiry to final marking

We ask for the relevant information before attendance, explain what may affect the work and agree on the inspection and reporting requirements in the quotation.

For industrial projects, we follow the contractor registration, induction, permit and site-safety requirements set by the client where applicable.

Northern Region Leak Detection Services is a registered Malaysian business:

SSM Registration No. 201703228080

Professional quotations, invoices and technical inspection reports are available according to the agreed project requirements.

Practical standards that guide the work

  • Observe before concluding — Start with the system and site conditions.
  • Compare before marking — Check more than one point where the site allows.
  • Explain before recommending — Help the customer understand the findings and next step.
  • Be honest about limitations — Do not promise what the site conditions cannot support.
  • Reduce unnecessary excavation — Narrow the search area before the ground is opened.
  • Protect customer information — Use project photographs and details responsibly.
