A falling fire-main pressure or frequent jockey-pump cycling does not identify where water is escaping. We review the normal operating pressure, pressure-drop timing, pump start and stop behaviour, previous pressure tests, hydrants, valves, isolation points and the available underground route.

Accessible metallic contact points can support system comparison, while ground inspection may be used along suitable sections of the route. A quieter operating window may be required where production, traffic, pumps or machinery interfere with acoustic observations.

Any valve operation, sectional isolation or fire-system impairment is coordinated with and carried out by the site’s authorised team. For a suitable isolated test section, controlled nitrogen-assisted pressurisation may be considered under a separately agreed, site-approved procedure with the responsible fire-protection team.
