Section 01
A high water bill after moving in
The property had been renovated before the owner moved in. The first monthly water bill exceeded RM600, and the water meter continued moving when normal water use was stopped.
The original plumber could not locate the problem. After the issue continued for approximately one year, the homeowner considered replacing the entire pipe. Another plumber then recommended LeakPinpoint.
Section 02
Preparing the property for investigation
LeakPinpoint travelled from Penang to Jitra, with an approximate journey time of two hours.
Before the investigation began, normal water use inside the property was stopped. This allowed the water meter and accessible pipeline route to be reviewed under more controlled conditions.
Section 03
Checking the 1-inch HDPE route
We compared sounds along the accessible 1-inch HDPE pipe route and marked a suspected area.
Progressive acoustic checks and ground listening were carried out at several suitable points. The readings were compared along the accessible route rather than relying on one observation.

Section 04
Narrowing and marking the suspected area
After comparing the available listening points, attention was narrowed to a smaller suspected area. A surface mark was placed to guide the customer-appointed plumber during controlled excavation.
The mark was intended to provide a practical excavation starting point and did not represent a guaranteed exact defect position.

Section 05
Excavation exposes the pipe
The customer-appointed plumber opened the investigated area. Water was observed during excavation, and the relevant HDPE pipeline was exposed near the marked location.
An underground pipe defect was exposed and repaired at the investigated location. The exact defect type was not documented.

Section 06
Repair carried out by the customer’s plumber
LeakPinpoint’s role was limited to the underground leak investigation and suspected-location marking.
The customer-appointed plumber carried out the excavation, pipe repair and reinstatement work.
Section 07
Customer feedback after repair.
After the repair was completed, the owner reported that the water meter had returned to normal behaviour.
The post-repair result was reported by the customer.

What This Case Shows
The exact leak rate, complete pipe-route length, exact defect type and exact mark-to-defect distance were not independently documented and are therefore not stated.
The actual pipe condition and repair requirement were confirmed only after excavation.
